My experience with Communication Technologies

I was fairly technology illiterate before university and I only ever used the computer when I needed to do school work.I barely ever used the internet apart from research and I never had a msn or even email until university. As of last year though due to travelling overseas I became a user of Myspace and Facebook.

I originally stated that I would never give in to the growing world of myspace or facebook as i thought it was a fad that would go away and that it was a waste of time. Most of my friends had them an I just thought it a complete waste of time. After a while I realised that it would get me in touch with people I had not seen in a while and probably reduce my growing monthly phone bills and considering I was going to be going overseas I decided to join.

I have had both myspace and facebook since July of last year and use it almost every day to keep in touch and make plans with people. I do find that it does get a bit addictive sometimes though and you can waste a lot of time on them.

I prefer myspace due to the fact that you can be artistic by personalising your page and have backgrounds and songs on your profile making it more interesting to use then facebook.

I think that the world of myspace is reducing in size as the demand for facebook is higher as myspace is seen as a younger persons webpage where as there are people of all ages in the Facebook network.

Privacy is important when it comes to online communication. Both my myspace and facebook pages are on private so that only my friends can see my page. I also don't accept friend requests from people I don't know as I only want to interact with people who I know.
