Is Email Dead? and the birth of blogging

E-Mail

In regards to the lecure of 'Is Email Dead' I was surprised that this should even be considered a 'dead technology'. Although I have given in to the growing world of myspace and facebook I use email as my first online contact to check if there is any mail for myspace or facebook. If there is nothing I usually won't go online. Although I do admit if some has written me an email I will get back to someone sooner who is a member of myspace or facebook.

As for the Nigerian span emails it was the first time that I had ever heard of them. I have also never got the Viagra ones either which makes me think that my hotmail is a good Spam Blocker. The only Spam I get is from Airlines I have flown with in the past.

In class we also went over the results of the tute survey about the extent of our involvement with technology and the class average was rather low for online activity, lower then I had expected it to be seeing as the worldwide use of technology is increasing.

Tutorial: Setting up a blog at Blogger.com

In this weeks tutorial we set up our blogs and further discussed the use of blogging to get ideas across. We brieftly continued out discussion with the decreasing use of Email due to the increase in Spam emailing. In setting up a blog we had to set up a name and choose a template. I worked out how to edit the background by changing the html coding making my page more aesthetic. Blogging is quite an easy task and does not require many computer skills. It is a style of writing that gives you freedom to make something as formal or informal and you want it to be. The only thing that comes to mind that the blog is lacking is the application for spell check/grammar and word count.

Reading: Handbook for bloggers
Bloggers give every day to day people the freedom of speech and is a tool to give your opinion on everyday issues. Blogging gives you the freedom to any person with access to internet connection and it can be seen as a new kind of journalism. In many countries where certain information on the news is censored, blogging has in fact become the new journalism. It is easy to create a blog, the hard task is finding an audience to read it. A blog is similar to a personal webpage although is easier to maintain, update and encourages a more personal style.
